Recording in a professional studio for the first time is exciting — and it can also feel a little overwhelming. You want to make sure you’re ready, focused, and using your time wisely. Here’s how to walk into Galaxy 21 (or any studio) fully prepared.
Know Your Material
The single most important thing you can do before any session is know your lyrics. Memorize them. Write them down. Have them on your phone. Nothing slows down a session more than stopping every few bars to remember a line. The more comfortable you are with your material, the more energy you can put into your actual performance.
Bring Reference Tracks
Not sure how you want your vocals to sit in the mix? Pull up 2–3 songs that represent the sound or feel you’re after. Reference tracks help your engineer understand your vision fast.
Warm Up Your Voice
If you’re a vocalist or rapper, treat your session like a performance. Drink water, avoid dairy beforehand, and do some light vocal warm-ups. A warmed-up voice records better and tires out slower.
Come With Your Beats Ready
If you’re recording over your own instrumentals, have them saved and accessible — on your phone, a USB, or a shareable link like Google Drive. Don’t waste session time searching for files. If you need a beat, Galaxy 21 has options available starting at $25.
Be Open to Direction
Your engineer has heard thousands of takes. If they suggest a different delivery or tone, hear them out. That collaborative energy is what separates a good record from a great one.
Stay Off Your Phone
Once the red light is on, focus. Distraction is the enemy of great music. At Galaxy 21, we make first-timers feel right at home. And remember — your first hour is completely free. There’s no better time to come in and see what you’re capable of.
